The primary objective of registering a company as a section 8 company is to promote non-profit purposes such as trade, commerce, arts, education, charity, religion, environmental protection, sports research, social welfare, etc.

In India, a non-profit organization can be registered under the Registrar of Societies or as a not-for-profit company under Section 8 Company of the Companies Act, 2013.

Section 8 Company Eligibility

An individual or group of persons can apply for section 8 company registration if he has the intentions mentioned below. The objectives should be confirmed to the satisfaction of the Central Government.

  • If the company intends to promote science, education, commerce, art, sports, research, social welfare, charity, protection of the environment, or other objectives
  • If the company intends to invest all profits or income generated after incorporation only in the promotion of such goods;
  • When the company does not intend to pay any dividend to its members.

  • Director Identification Number (DIN)
  • Digital Signature Certificate
  • Memorandum of Association
  • Articles of Association
  • Passport size Photographs
  • Members Id Proof such as Passport, Aadhar Card, and Voter ID.
